Beautiful Horizon in JohorIT has been quite a while since there has been a new golf course built in the country and the latest kid in the block - Horizon Hills Golf and Country Club in Nusajaya, Johor is a fantastic development.
Located right in the centre of Nusajaya, it is a joint venture development between UEM Land and Gamuda Land, and part of a high-end property development also called Horizon Hills.
Designed by Australian Ross Watson (the same designer responsible for Staffield, Tropicana and Kota Permai), the course is not exceptionally long but has great defences - lots of water and 90 bunkers.
A group of golf writers were taken to the course last month to have a sneak preview and we were all impressed.
It should be fully matured in about six months' time. Its Plaspalum grass-ed fairway and greens tuff-ed with the Tifeagle grass are growing superbly.
Where the Plaspalum grass had fully grown on the fairways, the balls were sitting up and tempting everyone to use their fairway woods and go for distance.
However, there are hidden creeks and deep bunkers waiting to catch out any wayward shots.
Another unique feature about the sand hazards is that bunker mats have been used to retain the sand on the steep banks. Some of the fairway bunkers are as deep as 5m.
Already the Malaysian Golf Association president Tunku Majid Sultan lskandar, who played a couple of rounds at the course, is eyeing it to host a few big events,
Now for the had news, Horizon Hills will be an exclusive club for the owners of residential property in the developmemt.
For those of you who want try out the course, bring along your chequebook to buy a house, It will be most expensive green fees though.
